Our Story

smartBARK! Organic grew out of my passion for chocolate and healthy eating. My dedication to organic products dates back to my childhood in Yugoslavia (now Croatia) where my family had an organic farm. 

After more than 20 years of making gourmet chocolate with Sweet Designs in Lakewood, Ohio, I developed smartBARK! to provide a healthier snacking option for dark chocolate lovers. Unlike mass-produced chocolate barks, smartBARK! is a sophisticated chocolate bark. 

It's important to me that smartBARK! can be enjoyed by those with various dietary needs. That's why smartBARK! is organic, non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free.

Growing up on a small, family farm, I also wanted to make sure I used as many direct-trade and fair-trade sourced ingredients as possible.  This ensures better salaries and working conditions for farmers who grow our cocoa, vanilla and sugar.

Since 2015, smartBARK! has built a loyal fan-base in Northeast Ohio. We’re now expanding distribution throughout Ohio and the Midwest and hope that you’ll give us a try.
